The Innocence of my Childhood

it's funny how when we are young we so want to grow up as quickly as possible, yet as soon as we are grown we suddenly want to grow back down again

The Innocence of My Childhood
As I look at how I’ve grown
I marvel at how time has flown
But if I could I think I would
Go back to the innocence of my childhood

How I wish I could but relive
Those young years that have now passed
How I wish I could but lift
The magic spell that Time has cast

I would chase after butterflies again
And old friends would knock at my door
And I would greet them as I once did
And we would play together once more

In spring we’d watch the growing flowers
We’d feel the soft summer wind blow
We would chase the leaves in autumn
In winter we would play with snow

We would once more share secrets
Whisper to each other as we used to
We would talk about when we’d grow
And of the things we want to do

But time has gone, and I have grown
And like the wind that blows so wild
My younger years passed, and before I knew
No longer was I a child

Now in school I enter my senior year
And adult life is drawing near
But if I only could, I think I would
Go back to the innocence of my childhood

  1. Out of all your poems and novels that I've read, this one is my favorite. It portrays a simple truth that brings back many wonderful memories...
